A new type of light source for plant production, high-power high electrical-to-optical power conversion efficiency laser-diode lamps, with the continuous wave output power of 800 mW x 2 that have peak emission of 660 nm have been developed.  

Laser irradiation is considered as a new branch in agriculture; especially in medicinal plants.  The effects of different types of laser on the seed germination and on the rate of the growth of plants were carried out and the results showed improvements in sowing.  Qualities of the seeds shortened the phases of plant development, produced more vigorous plants, and increased the yields of both stem and seeds to a considerable extent.

Case Study Tomatoes:

In a test (above), half of the greenhouse with the application of laser light, the average plant height is 130cm, and the perimeter of the stem is 7cm.  Without the application of laser light, the plant height is 120cm,and the perimeter of the stem is 4.5cm.  The numbers of setting fruits in three lines with and without the application of light are 558 and 402 respectively.  The percentage of fertile fruit increases by 38%.

Based on the research of an Independent Research Team, different types of lasers have different effects on seed germination and plant growth rates.  Results showed improvements in several areas, including seed quality, shortened phases of plant development, more vigorous plants and considerably increased yields of both stems and seeds.

An Independent Research team studied the effect of laser-diode irradiation and exposure time on growth, yield, and essential oil production and chemical composition of anise and cumin plants.  Since then, other plant types have also been studied.

What are the specific effects of the laser lights on cannabis?

 

The complex cycle of gibberellic acid (a hormone found in plants) and cytokinin formation can only be promoted by monochromatic light (laser) and not by other light forms including polychromatic light (sunlight).  This cell elongation causes an increase in plant height and shoot and internodes increase which gives the plant more branches and umbels.  Gibberellic acid increase sugars which form essential oil through acetyl and mevalonic synthesis pathways, (increased oil production).
